The Big Future of Nigerian Aviation Sector

“It is an exciting prospect to think that in the next 20 years more than twice as many passengers as today will have the chance to fly. Air connectivity on this scale will help transform economic opportunities for millions of people. At present, aviation helps sustain 58 million jobs and $2.4 trillion in economic activity. In 20 years’ time we can expect aviation to be supporting around 105 million jobs and $6 trillion in GDP,” said Tony Tyler, IATA’s Director General and CEO.
A great reason for any one to invest in aviation, especially a country like Nigeria with increasing passenger prospect and airport development,
While improving living standards, population and demographics, price and availability create the conditions for improved demand, there is potential for policy-induced obstacles to hinder the development of connectivity. “Meeting the potential demand will require government policies that support the economic benefits that growing connectivity makes possible. Airlines can only fly where there is infrastructure to accommodate them.
It's been projected that about 15 to 16 million passenger movement at Nigerian airports by the end of 2014, a number that would continue to grow following the country’s re based economy which will attract more foreigners to Nigeria even as more Nigerians are expected to travel locally and overseas.“The growth is a positive thing because it ensures contribution to economic and social development, but it is also a challenge. The implication is that you need more infrastructures for airport operations, and air traffic management in order to accommodate that capacity. So every member state is expected to invest in order to accommodate traffic growth,”The president of the ICAO council, (The International Civil Aviation Organisation)  Dr Bernard Aliu said" The massive scale of infrastructural development of aviation facilities has positioned Nigeria as a true hub of aviation in sub-Saharan Africa and West Africa. In particular, 22 existing airports round the country remodeled and expanded, including four international airports. The Nigerian Aviation industry is open and ready to do business with the rest of the world, The President Goodluck Jonathan’s government is instituted to enable Nigerians, reap in real time, the dividends of his transformation agenda in the aviation industry.
